Michael "Mike" Shumate

Michael “Mike” Shumate 63, of Newborn, passed away at Piedmont Newton Hospital on Saturday, August, 10 2019. Mike was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Jack and Florine Shumate.He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Shumate of Newborn; children, Michael Thurman of Loganville, Tabitha Shumate of Missouri, Joshua Shumate of Monticello, Anthony Shumate of Newborn; grandchildren, Elijah Thurman, Makylah Thurman, Liam Shumate, Braylee Shumate, Layla Shumate, McKenzie Shumate; brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Hariett Shumate of Ellijay; sister and brother-in-law Jan and Eric Maxwell, of Covington; many nieces and nephews.Mike was a loving husband, father and friend. He truly loved his family and children. Mike believed in hard work and instilled that to all his family and friends. He always explained to everyone the importance of taking care of their family. Mike never met a stranger. If you were a friend or around someone he loved, he was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back. He loved to make people laugh and he enjoyed seeing everyone taken care of and smiling. The best thing of all, Mike received Jesus Christ as his savior.Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10am at Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services located at 11405 Brown Bridge Rd. Covington, GA. Brother Eric Maxwell will be officiating the service. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
