Mary Jo Speer Thomas

Mary Jo Speer Thomas, of McDonough, passed away peacefully at Eagles Landing Senior Living at the age of 90. She was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Garston and Elsie Thurman Speer.Mary Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She enjoyed baking, flower gardening and plants. Mary Jo was a life-long member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church until moving to Zion Baptist Church. She loved singing in the church choir.Preceded in death by her husband Fed R. Thomas; parents, Edward Garston and Elsie Speer; and son, James “Jimmy” Thomas. She is survived by her daughters and spouses, Patti and Ricky Gunnyon of McDonough, GA, Cindy and Doug Ayers of McCormick, SC; daughter in law, Robin Thomas of Sharpsburg, GA; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at Zion Baptist Church with Chaplin Michael Winsor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
