Margaret Louise McGiboney

Margaret Louise Johnson McGiboney, 87, of Covington passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 after a month long battle with Covid 19. She was born in Porterdale, Ga. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, James L (Jack) McGiboney, and her parents Alton and Nellie (Standard) Johnson. A retired nurse, Louise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her favorite activities included bird watching, and watching any kind of sports on TV, especially the Braves and Falcons. She never missed a Braves game. She was quite the athlete in her day, playing basketball on her high school team and an avid golfer, tennis player, bowler, and fisherman. She was famous for her zucchini bread and her coconut black walnut pound cake. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Louise was a selfless, caring, compassionate, grateful, thoughtful and, loving individual who made it her ministry to send a birthday card/anniversary card to every member of her church, to her family, and friends. Another favorite pastime of hers was keeping up with friends, and family on Facebook. Louise was known within the family as the glue that held the extended family together through many generations. Louise was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Though unable to attend live services, she never missed attending virtual services on her iPad. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Rich) Griffith of Covington; son, Tony (Carol Ann) McGiboney of Covington; grandchildren, TJ McGiboney, Travis (Amanda) McGiboney, Tonya McGiboney of Covington, Callaway (Carter) Scott of Tallahassee FL, 6 great-grandchildren; Aidan, Eva, Aubrey, Brooklyn, Zion, Blake and Cade (arriving in March). Due to the current prevalence of Covid in our community, a family graveside service will be held, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 3pm at Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington, GA with Phil Demore and Pastor Carol Standard officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund at Salem United Methodist Church, 3962 Salem Rd Covington GA 30016. Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve. Please understand we will be following the State’s COVID guidelines. We also ask all guests and family members attending visitations and services to please bring and wear a mask and you are encouraged to practice social distancing.
