Lamar “Bobby” J. Abbott, Jr., 69, of McDonough, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Bobby was born in Porterdale, GA to the late Lamar J. Sr. and Gladys Daniel Abbott. His passions included his family, farming and coaching his two children in their various sports activities. He was also dedicated to his work with the IBEW Local 613 of Atlanta.Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Lee Ann Abbott, son and daughter in law Rodney and Wendy Abbott, daughter Dee Abbott, grandson Brandon Abbott all of McDonough, Ga, sister Barbara Owens of Covington, Ga, brother Billy D. Abbott of McDonough, Ga. along with several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with Rev. Tanner Cline officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. I was an engineer for a manufacturing facility in Forest Park.
We were 22 hours into what was supposed to be an 16 hour shut down. Still had 4 hours to go. I was a dead man walking but Bobby and his crew ( which included Rodney) kept working. Those scenarios happened more than once, usually because we didn't get the equipment on schedule. It came to the point when I would walk into the facility and see Bobby - he would see me - we would shake our heads and realize - here we go again! I always felt good when Bobby was on the job. He was quick to laugh.
Rest in peace Bobby - you earned it.

Bobby was the first contractor I had the privilege to work with when I started my career. He taught me how to enjoy hard work and have a fun time doing it. Every day around him included laughs and smiles. I'm blessed to have a person like him as a part of my memory. Each one of us dies, but not everyone has the privilege of being missed. He will surely be missed.

Such a dear friend of many years. We, along with Bobby and Lee Ann, enjoyed many trips together, had a great time playing cards and visiting, laughing and enjoying just good, clean fun! We were with Bobby and Lee Ann on a trip when he first realized he had problems. That just seemed like yesterday. You will be sorely missed, Bobby.
