Bruce William Byrne, 68, of McDonough, graduated and was promoted to heaven Tuesday, January 2, 2018 after battling a long illness. He was born in Kankakee, IL to the late William J. and Mary Ann Christensen Byrne. He graduated from Bradley-Bourbonnais High School in 1967. He attended the University of Illinois and was a road surveyor for the state of Illinois. Then he served as a sergeant in the Air Force from 1969-1973 as an instrument RPMN working on aircraft. He graduated with a BBA in 1981 from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. He worked for Atlas Die as a technical sales representative until his retirement in 2015. Also, he was a member of the American Legion. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, collecting coins, eating good BBQ, and spending time with his family. Bruce was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and a faithful season ticket holder for almost 20 years. He and his wife were members of Prospect Methodist Church since 1989 and served the church in many capacities. Most importantly, he knew Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kay Patterson Byrne of McDonough, daughter and son-in-law Mary and Chad Mangum of Statham, son and daughter-in-law R.J. and Margo Byrne of Americus, grandchildren, Ava, Ella, and Isabelle Mangum, and Josephine (Phee) and Clifton (Cubby) Byrne, along with sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Mike Baron of North Chesterville, VA and Robin and Al Sheputis of Essex, IL. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at Prospect Methodist Church with Rev. Ronny Brannen and Rev. Lawrence Lockett officiating. Interment will follow at Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10:00 am.
