She was born in DeKalb County, GA to the late Robert and Margaret Rebecca (Harris) Collins.As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she always put her family first. She was a loving wife for 59 years and enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with her family. She was very artistic and her hobbies allowed her to show that off in her ceramics, painting and drawing. Barbara also enjoyed fishing, flower gardening and putting out bird seed. She loved to travel to the beach and the mountains. Barbara loved Gospel and old County Music and in her younger days she had a large collection of vinyl records.In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her children, Becky Calcagni and Dana Yates. Her survivors include her husband, Grover Yates of Covington; children and their spouses, Denise Yates and Harvey Pitts of Covington, Greg and Cindy Yates of Covington, Connie and Darryl Shumake of Covington; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren;brother, David Collins of Social Circle sister, Shirley Michiaels and David Mathis of Monroe; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Margaret Collins; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Michael Patterson and Bishop J.A. Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Salem UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm – 8pm.Our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve.
