John Thomas Tiltti, 71, of Covington passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. He was born in New York, NY to the late Phillip and Helvi Tiltti. Mr. Tiltti served in the US Army and was retired from the Border Patrol where he served as an agent for 32 years. He was nicknamed “Mad Man” because of his determination to get the job done. He also worked at South River Gun Club.Mr. Tiltti is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Dianne Tiltti of Covington; daughters Kristen Tiltti of Cornwall, NY and Amanda Tiltti of New Windsor, NY; grandsons Seth (Lisa) Tiltti of Holiday, FL and Taylor Stovall of Cornwall, NY; and brother and sister-in-law Allan and Carol Tiltti of Bronx, NY.A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Wheeler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and have a sharing of memories at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. SBPA Tiltti was one of the greatest....He taught me so much about the job and how to identify individuals that needed to be talked to.....He knew I loved the work. One night we were set up on a man-hole cover trying to stay awake and sure as ****, 3 dudes popped up into traffic and took off. Already, John Tiltti is a real legend. He didn't just touch lives, he inspired many...at least hundreds, if not thousands. And John Tiltti stories will live forever. At least for now, they are all true. And there are enough stories to fill a book or perhaps, a trilogy. (John would probably deny that, but secretly smile at the reference.) That's the way he was: very modest, but he knew he was a major character. How could he not know?

Mrs. Tiltti ad Family, I am a member of several Border Patrol and INS Facebook pages and I wish you all could see the wonderful things being said about John on those pages. Search "US Border Patrol and INS Officers Group", "Station One Alum" and "Border Patrol Friends" and ask to join the groups to see the thoughts those who have worked with and for John have shared about him.
John Tiltti always reminded be of Clint Eastwood, one difference though, John was the real deal. An example of a typical E33 radio transmission, as soon as I left my area to get a "cup" was , " there is a group coming in at the Bouy hole", crap I would think out loud. We would not need the modern day IDENT system if we all had the mind of John Tiltti. RIP E33, thanks for all the help and fun.

As a classmate, John and I had great times at the academy and my 10 years in El Paso. No finer person. He was the most competent officer in my time.
